Who are We?

 

Biography of George J. Bullied

 

George Bullied is a survivor of three wars, W.W.II, The Korean War and life on the mean streets of Montreal and Toronto.  He has recovered from a major substance abuse.  George has turned his negative life experiences into positive lessons.  He has used these lessons to help people not only in substance recovery but also in teaching them how to live and enjoy quality sobriety.  George’s early academic education ended at age 12.  It was resumed much later.  He completed post-graduate work at university at age 45.  He continues on-going education in many fields and does so with consistently high standards.

 

MAJOR AREAS OF SKILLS AND EXPERTISE

Counseling and also Intensive therapy for individuals, couples and groups.  Human Development Trainer.  Administrator of treatment program for drugs, alcohol and AIDS treatments.  Holistic Health lecturer and trainer on alternative lifestyles; holistic healer.  Lecturer in Sociology and Human Growth and Development (principally at St. Clair College, Windsor).  Conductor of Workshops and classes on Spiritual Growth and Development.  Manager/Director and Founder of a number of organizations.  Teacher of 12-Step Programs.  Stress Management consultant for individuals and industry.  An expert in the development of intentional communities.  Lecturer.  Producer and Director of Television Programs.  Ordained Minister.

 

EDUCATION AND MAJOR INFLUENCES

-       Association with Mahatma Gandhi

-       At the Esalen Institute at Big Sur, California, 8 months training including Gestalt therapy with Fritz Perls and seminars in human growth and holistic health

-       At Loveland, Colorado, residential training in Communal Living (including organic gardening, ontology, holistic healing and individual and pastoral counseling)

 

-       At Windsor University, Windsor, Ontario

B.A. (with majors in Sociology, Psychology, Theology and included also were many Social Work courses.  Greatly influenced by Abraham Maslow at Wayne State University).  Social Work practicum in the ghettos of Detroit

-       M.A. (Equiv.) in Sociology granted by Windsor University.  Master’s

Course work was completed, but in lieu of thesis credit was given for community development, particularly the creation of two major intentional communities for troubled and drug addicted youth

 

At the National Training Laboratories at Wayne State University – Group leader in human development studies.

At Washington State University, Seattle, Washington, George took intensive Instructor Training in WAMI-AIDS

George is an ordained Minister in the Therapeutae Society of the Essenes

Master’s studies in Theology, at UBC, Vancouver, BC (incomplete)

Founder and Director of Crossroads (a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center for youth with drug problems), in Windsor, Ontario

 

Founder and Director of Twin Valleys Educational Residential Community, Wardsville, Ontario.  Twin Valleys was a campus of St. Clair College.  It was designed to work with young people who had multiple social problems.  It was a highly successful experiment by a community college and it lasted for ten years.

 

Founder and Director of Pacific School of Holistic Health, Vancouver BC and Seattle, Wash.  Holistic health healer, human growth trainer, workshop designer and facilitator.

 

Private Practice in spiritual mentoring and human growth and development, residential training specializing in workshops of varying durations, for 7 years in Issaquah, Washington

 

Counseling in Drug and Alcohol Substance Abuse and multiple social problems.  Also counseling people with AIDS, in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside for ten years, as an employee of the Seniors’ Well Aware Program.

Alternative to Confinement, a book on intentional community living as an alternative to confinement.

People of the Valley, a book about Twin Valleys School and Community, its philosophy and structure and purpose

“Listen, Listen, Listen”, a one and a half hour film about Twin Valleys by the National Film Board

International Lecture Circuit, under the auspices of Twin Valleys and the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities.  Subjects – “Youth and Drugs”, “Alternative Lifestyles”

Guest Speaker at the United Nations Youth Council.  Subject - “Youth and Drugs”

“Health, Spirit and Living”, Host and Director.  This was a public access TV show, which aired once a week for one hour for about three years.

Trip to the Soviet Union for filming a TV show and lecturing on Drugs and Alcohol.

Establishing a program of rehabilitation for Soviet servicemen who saw service in Afghanistan

 

COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER MEMBERSHIPS AND ASSOCIATIONS
